NVFFA Hall of Fame

On the NVFFA's 10th Season Anniversary in January of 2000, Commissioner Steven D'Argenio announced the creation of the first ever Mid-Atlantic Flag "HALL OF FAME" to honor the NVFFA's greatest players, coaches and non-playing league personnel and officials.

The requirements for entry as a player/coach are:
  • Minimum of five seasons of NVFFA league or tournament participation
  • Superior athleticism/coaching ability
  • Part of a winning program
  • Multiple awards/championships a major plus
  • NVFFA career spent as a positive team and league role model
The current inductees are as follows:

CLASS OF 2001

Steven D'Argenio  (President/Commissioner)

"Steve D" is the founder of the NVFFA and served as President/Commissioner from league inception until the Fall 2001 season. The hard work and dedication of Steve along with Delores Neu-D'Argenio(2000 Hall of Fame Inductee) are the main reason behind the growth and popularity of the NVFFA which ranks as the 5th largest adult flag football league in the country. Steve is also believed to be one of the original flag football internet pioneers with the establishment of the NVFFA website in 1995.

Sean Fitzsimmons  (Coach/Player/Youth Director)

Sean is one of earliest supporters and coaches in the NVFFA. Sean has participated as a player/coach in several NVFFA "A" division playoffs and championship series as well as being voted Fall 1996 "A" Division "Coach of the Year". Sean is probably less known for the most important contribution he makes as Director of the NVFFA Youth Flag program.

Alan Brown  (Coach - Metro Chiefs)

What more can be said about a coach that has led his team to National recognition and rankings for multiple seasons and set the standard for future NVFFA 9-man teams. Alan has has coached the Metro Chiefs to (3) NVFFA "A" Division Championship titles while producing (3) "A" Division League MVPs and (3) "A" Division Championship game MVPs. Alan was also voted NVFFA "A" Division "Coach of the Year" for the Spring 2000 seasons.

CLASS OF 2000

Chester Gee  (Player - Ashburn Pub)

No one will argue here that the best ever player to step on an NVFFA field was former USFL Philadelphia Stars and Duke University standout Chester Gee, who starred for the Ashburn Pub dynasty (three straight "A" Division titles and NVFFA record 31 straight league victories) before his tragic death in a car accident. Chester would have no doubt made his name known on the national flag scene based on his tremendous athletic ability and good charactered, friendly, yet competitive personality. In addition to leading the Ashburn Pub to two out of their three NVFFA "A" Division titles, Chester was also a multiple NVFFA awards winner capturing the first ever "League Most Valuable Player" trophy back in the Fall of 1995. In memory of Chester Gee, the NVFFA "A" Division League MVP trophy is now named in his honor that has since been won by such flag standouts as QB Kevin Nelson of the Metro Chiefs as well as QB Mike Grigsby of the Cutters, just to name a few of the many quality winners.

Matt Hemminger  (Coach - Ashburn Pub)

What can you say about an individual that has captured NVFFA "Coach of the Year" honors as well as three straight NVFFA "A" Division Championships (NVFFA record). Throw in yet another league record 31 straight victories and it is a "no brainer" why Matt Hemminger assembled a group of talented ball players over the years that was feared by many. Since his adult coaching retirement back in 1998, Hemminger has since taken over co-coaching duties with Bobby McNey on the NVFFA/NFL Flag "Youth" champion Vikings, who just returned from Orlando, Florida with a USFTL 3rd place National finish as well as two of the Vikings being selected as All-American players.

Dolores Neu  (League Office Director)

Another deserving 2000 Class inductee is NVFFA League Office Director Dolores Neu. Ms. Neu is no doubt the unsung hero and a major part of the successful growth of the NVFFA since its inception during the fall of 1995. No one works harder at promoting the league, handling all administrative matters with the counties, media, lawyers, insurance companies and assisting all league coaches and members than Dolores, who works full time manning the NVFFA League Office during normal business hours and then some. Her knowledge of the sport, rules and policies takes a back seat to no one. Ms. Neu has also been a major contributor to the many innovating web site and league ideas established by the NVFFA. In addition, Dolores has been a major reason alongside President Steven D'Argenio and NVFFA Youth Director Sean Fitzsimmons in establishing the league's youth program that has already approached 200 kids in enrollment in only it's second year of operation.

Congratulations on all of the above NVFFA Hall of Fame inductees. NVFFA-enshrined inductees receive a special "Hall of Fame" plaque.

New inductees that meet the aforementioned criteria will be announced every January at the off-season Coaches Committee Meeting.
